Nokia N-Gage summit: future lies in location-based gaming

Ice-cream for all!

At the Nokia N-Gage summit in Rome today, Nokia Executive Vice President of entertainment and communities Tero Ojanpera has been enthusiastically outlining the company's plans for the future of their mobile gaming platform.

Having stressed the importance of combining modern phone features such as music, gaming and GPS into one experience, he went on to suggest that upcoming games will specifically make use of location-based software.

Tero mentioned that the N-Gage Arena platform could soon be clever enough to download different versions of games dependent on whereabouts in the world you find yourself.

As an example, if you were to download fighting game 'One', in Rome, there would perhaps be levels and characters specific to that area. Not only this, but winning online games will earn you "coupons for things that you might like depending on where you are". Win a game in Rome? Arena will send you a coupon for ice cream. Win a game in the USA, and presumably you'll get some bucks off anything under the famed Golden Arches.

Either way, Nokia is adamant that gamer location will be playing a big part in the N-Gage's future.
