Gaming specialist MCV has claimed that sources close to the matter have revealed the next generation pocket-friendly console will land later this month during a Tokyo-based press conference. No official word of any such announcement has yet been revealed by Sony.

The predicted PSP2 arrival would spark a fierce competition in the portable gaming market with the Nintendo 3DS officially scheduled for a Japanese launch on February 26th ahead of a March global rollout and the heavily rumoured and repeatedly leaked Sony Ericsson PSP Phone expected to touch down at Mobile World Congress next month.

Despite having lived in the shadow of Nintendo’s pocket gamers for much of its life, the PSP’s increased graphical realism helped it outsell all other console in Japan last December. Specs, and pricing for the PSP2 are currently unknown.
