Canon Ixus 90 IS

Is this tough-as-nails Ixus the complete compact cam package?

Great images, packed with intuitive features, a great interface and a strapping build that makes Chuck Norris look like that dude form the Mr Muscle ads; make no mistake this is a cracking camera.

The first thing you'll notice is the sturdy weightiness almost, as if it's been carved from the jaw of Rocky Balboa himself. You won't find yourself lamenting the hard case though as it protects a brilliant 3" LCD screen.

A real standout is Canon's face recognition feature - it zeroes in on your dumbstruck mug faster than that ex-girlfriend from school you desperately try to avoid on the street.

It boasts 10 megapixels and the quality of images is unquestionably good. However, if your penchant is for taking endless close ups of Sarah Harding's bum from row Z of Wembley Stadium, this cam isn't for you. Despite image stabilisation, the 3x optical room doesn't allow for mega zooomage. For standard portraits and landscapes though, it's ideal.

It is packed full of shooting modes both for the environment you're shooting in and the type of pictures you're looking to take, a real helping hand for the less experienced photographer. Stitch Assist is a great feature for taking panoramas.

Start up time is instant and battery life seems eternal. With the external buttons, internal menus, and even a click wheel, scrolling through your pics is simple. At £259, it's certainly not cheap, but for a package this good, it's certainly worth it.

The Canon IXUS 90 IS is a great camera. With 10.0megapixels, motion detection and built-in image stabilizer, IXUS 90 IS is gonna reveal a new era of digital imaging experience.
