The newly upgraded DJI Osmo 360 II is designed for capturing every twist and turn without worrying about framing – or scratching the lenses. Image quality is decent and stabilisation impressive, but editing its enormous 8K files is another kettle of fish, demanding lots of storage, processing power and plenty of patience.

The average DJI product has a shelf life of 12 to 18 months before the Shenzhen-based manufacturer releases a new iteration, but I didn’t expect a new version of the Osmo 360 camera I reviewed in July 2025 to hit the market so soon.

The original DJI Osmo 360 was already a very capable 360-degree camera, but this new Osmo 360 II, which launched in the UK on 2 September 2026, takes the wrap-around formula considerably further.

Instead of simply adding a few new headline-grabbing features, DJI has listened to its users and addressed several of the original’s limitations – most notably its fixed lenses that DJI had to replace – while improving frame rates and overall usability.

Price and availability

The DJI Osmo 360 II officially launches on 2 November 2026 and is available in the UK directly from DJI, priced at £509 for the Standard Combo and £639 for the Adventure Combo reviewed here. Alternatively, visit Amazon, Argos and John Lewis & Partners.

If you live in Europe, visit your country’s local DJI store where the standard Osmo 360 II retails at €599. Sadly, DJI has no plans yet to launch the Osmo 360 II in the USA, but that may change.

At-a-glance differences between the Osmo 360 and Osmo 360 II

The DJI Osmo 360 II enhances upon the original Osmo 360 rather than radically reinventing it, with both cameras sharing the same basic 360-degree concept and compact 183g pocket-sized form.

The biggest change is the Osmo 360 II’s new user-replaceable lenses. Unlike the original Osmo 360, which required you to send the entire camera to DJI for lens repair after an accident or even a scratch (easy to do), the new Osmo 360 II features replaceable lenses you can buy directly from DJI.

This makes accidental scratches or major damage much easier and far less costly to fix.

The Osmo 360 II Lens Kit includes two lenses and everything you need to swap out damaged ones, including a mini suction cup, a watch-style screw wrench, and a puffer to remove any trace of dust. In the UK, the Lens Kit will retail for a reasonable £35.

The second biggest upgrade is video capture: the Osmo 360 II can shoot 8K at up to 60 frames per second, whereas the original tops out at 50fps. Those extra 10fps might not sound like much, but they make for smoother playback, especially when shooting fast action sports like mountain biking, snowboarding, or sailboarding.

The 360 II also brings improved low-light performance, with its SuperNight mode now supporting 8K at an impressive 60fps, while the original's SuperNight 8K mode is limited to just 30fps.

DJI has also added 4K Panorama slow-motion up to a very handy 240fps (the original had a max of 120fps) and a brilliant Spotlight Follow mode which automatically tracks and keeps a selected subject centred in the frame.

This mode makes post-editing much easier because, instead of requiring manual keyframing, it digitally pans and adjusts the field of view to keep your subject in frame at all times.

Other improvements include support for both RAW and JPEG (the original only supported JPEG) and NFC Quick-Tap for quicker connection between the camera and the Mimo phone app.

No question, the original Osmo 360 remains remarkably well specified, with many of the same camera stats, including the 1/1.1-inch sensors, f/1.9 aperture, 120MP panoramic stills, plus RockSteady 3.0 and HorizonSteady stabilisation.

The new model also has the same amount of built-in storage (128GB) and the same ability to be submerged in up to 10m of water without a waterproof casing.

However, I think that the new Osmo 360 II is the more capable and future-proof option, particularly if you shoot fast action scenes or regularly work in low light. Plus, there’s no denying the convenience and cost-effectiveness of repairing the camera’s lenses yourself.

Design and features

Since the new Osmo 360 II has the exact same housing as the original, you will not be able to tell the two models apart unless you look closely at the circumference of the two lenses, where the new model replaces its predecessor’s fixed mountings with a serrated Rolex-style bezel for DIY lens removal.

Otherwise, they both weigh 183g and share the same proportions (61x83x47mm). They also have the same-sized two-inch touchscreen monitor, the same three control buttons – on/off, record and modes – and the same four microphones.

The DJI Osmo 360 II Adventure Combo I received ships with three batteries in their own charging case, a soft zipped nylon carrying case containing a USB-C cable and tripod adaptor, a silicone lens cover that I still don’t like very much and a 1.2m extendable selfie stick that automatically disappears from the final video.

I was also sent the DJI Battery Extension Rod (£84.99), and I highly recommend this as a great alternative to the included selfie stick, mostly because it allows you to operate key camera functions like record, stop and mode selection from the handle grip. Granted, it’s only 90cm in length and is heavier in the hand, but it’s a much more practical option, especially if used when walking about.

As with the original model, the unit's sides feature securely lockable waterproof doors for the battery compartment, Micro-SD slot, and USB-C port, while the base includes a standard tripod mount. As before, I suggest using the included tilt-ready tripod adaptor, which uses strong magnetism and two claws to grip the base of the camera like a vice.

The Osmo 360 II once again comes with dual 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensors for decently sharp imagery, great dynamics and impressive low-light performance. While most of the new camera’s image resolutions are roughly the same as before, the main improvement here is the increased frame rate in 8K from 50fps to 60fps and better slow-motion at up to 240fps.

If your computer can handle the larger file sizes without dropping frames while editing, I would once again stick to shooting in the highest resolution each mode offers.

Aside from the key 360˚ Panoramic mode which offers three levels of perspective – Standard Dewarp, Wide and Ultra Wide – the 360 II’s 360˚ shooting mode list also features SuperNight (increased brightness in low light), Pano Slow Motion, Selfie (the camera automatically keeps you centred in the frame while you hold the selfie stick), Timelapse and Vortex, which works using DJI’s optional Osmo Vortex Rotating Handle (£39.99).

Like the Insta360 BulletTime function, when you attach the camera and included selfie stick to the Vortex Rotating Handle and swing it around above your head, it creates a swirling effect of the world revolving around you.

To be honest, I see no point in this Vortex function since the shot is spoiled by the user having their arm in the air while swinging it around. Worse, because the selfie stick is automatically erased from the content, it looks even less convincing having a distorted hand swirling about.

You also get four shooting options in Single Lens mode, and you can use either lens for this purpose. Photo and Video are self-explanatory, SuperNight ramps up the brightness considerably, and Boost – one of my favourite functions – provides an ultra-wide fisheye perspective akin to the earliest GoPros.

As before, there’s also a PRO mode that lets the user adjust exposure, white balance, colour profile (normal 10-bit and D-Log M 10-bit) and metering. You can also choose from six different film tone effects. The Osmo 360 II also perfectly syncs with the DJI Mic 2 for improved audio recording.

Performance

This model is no different from its predecessor in terms of use. Everything looks and feels the same. I also admit I can't tell the difference between footage shot on the new Osmo 360 II and the earlier model, though speed-sport fans may notice a slight improvement with the new 60fps frame rate.

In good light, the Osmo 360 II produces impressive videos with crisp detail, great dynamic range and excellent stabilisation. Its 8K capture gives footage plenty of resolution for cropping and reframing in 4K without sacrificing too much detail, while its low-light performance makes it extremely versatile after dark.

However, I’m still mindful that the final edited results are ultimately not as sharp as a direct video from my iPhone 15 Pro. Yes, the Osmo 360 II can handle any angle or perspective you want, but the finished video somehow lacks the crispness my iPhone produces, especially in Cinematic mode when the backgrounds are professionally blurred.

Likewise, I have no desire to use this camera for taking photos unless I am after a weird perspective using one of the ultra-wide modes. Why? Because it can’t compete with my iPhone for outright image quality, let alone a DSLR. So, for me, adding RAW is of no consequence.

If I’m out and about with the Osmo 360 II and I see a photo opportunity, I’ll just reach for the trusty iPhone, pop it into Portrait mode and take a lush image with a soft-focus background. End of.

Of course I’m talking about standard walkabout video here and am mindful that the Osmo 360 II is ostensibly a specialised action camera designed for shooting high-speed drama from every conceivable angle, something the iPhone simply cannot compete with.

I’ll sign off with a final gripe about the 360˚ editing process in general, and this applies to all 360˚ cameras. Editing 360-degree footage requires specialised software like DJI Studio and Insta360 Studio, and it can be a time-consuming pain in the arse because you’re essentially dealing with an entire spherical world rather than a normal frame.

Every shot needs reframing, keyframing, and often repositioning to decide where the viewer should actually look. Even seemingly straightforward edits can turn into a marathon of fiddling with viewpoints, horizons and transitions.

Then there’s the spectre of working with enormous hard drive-swallowing 8K files, waiting for everything to render or worse, having your computer grind to a halt because it’s not powerful enough to handle the sheer weight of all those massive 8K files. Granted, the results can be really spectacular, but the convoluted editing process may make some users wonder why they ever pressed record.

Verdict

The DJI Osmo 360 II is a brilliant but very niche action camera, perfectly suited for fast-moving sports like cycling, mountain biking, skateboarding, skiing, and sailboarding. Its ability to capture everything around you means you can concentrate on the action and worry about framing later.

The camera’s video quality is generally very good, its stabilisation is surprisingly excellent, and the creative possibilities it provides are clearly enormous. The downside is the price you pay afterwards because editing those enormous 360-degree 8K video files can be painfully slow and storage-hungry.
