Sony PSP Go revealed

Bye bye UMD drive, hello Bluetooth

Chalk one up for the internet rumour mill – the PSP Go (less one exclamation mark) is real and is being revealed at E3. Right now, it’s still not technically official, but this time the leaked images and information has stemmed from Sony itself.

One soon-to-be-ex-Sony employee accidentally went and released a ton of PSP Go info inside Qore – Sony’s downloadable gaming show, which is available to PS3 users in the US.

Much of the earlier rumoured information has proved to be correct. PSP Go is smaller than the current PSP-3000 and 43% lighter; it has a sliding screen, which conceals the traditional PSP controls; it has no UMD drive and will be filling the gap with a new download store.

Other specs include 16GB of flash memory, an additional memory card slot, a 3.8” screen and Bluetooth. It’s not clear what the Bluetooth connection will be used for but we’re hoping that further enhanced PS3 connectivity is on the cards.

Qore even managed to drop the ball with new games: the long, long awaited Gran Turismo mobile was mentioned, along with Jak and Daxter and a new Metal Gear Solid title.

Interestingly, the launch of PSP Go won’t mean the death of the other PSP model – both will be selling side by side. Sony is due to make the proper PSP Go announcement at E3 tomorrow; keep your eyes peeled – we’ll be bringing you all the details.

why would you want to have the perminant buttons there if they could be hidden away when you put it in your pocket, it looks alright, a bit plastic but its good, its aiming at the Dsi audience which is a good move. its going to be a hit and has set up a big potential for sony, :) well done sony
