Leaked dual-core Motorola smartphone pictures revealed

Motorola Droid 2X pics snapped ahead of launch

Droid 2X caught on camera

Images of a mooted dual-core Motorola handset have leaked online with the zippy Android device snapped running version 2.2 of the mobile operating system, FroYo.

The pics, which come via Android Central, appear to show the repeatedly rumoured Motorola Droid 2X, a device which, as its name suggests, will come with twice the processing power of a single-core handset thanks to its rumoured 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor.

Whilst the photos offer little information about the handsets spec, those responsible for the leak claim the handset is set to launch touting a 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen display, 1GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera. The now traditional front-facing camera is, based on the leaked shots, errant from the Droid 2X.

Although pictured running the now dated Android 2.2 operating system, it is expected the dual-core handset from Motorola will make the jump to Android 2.3, Gingerbread prior to an official announcement.

Are dual-core handset the now expected benchmark of smartphones or a passing trend that will soon be overlooked by further improvements? Share your thoughts via the T3 Twitter and Facebook feeds.
