Google has now activated more than 100 million Android devices since launch with 400,000 additional Android touting gadgets being activated on a daily basis, Google’s Hugo Barra has revealed.
Unveiling the figures during his keynote speech at Google’s I/O conference yesterday, Barra’s reports of 400,000 daily activations shows Android continued rapid growth following Eric Schmidt’s announcement of 350,000 daily activations made at Mobile World Congress in February.
As the Android platform continues to grow so does its offering of mobile and tablet applications with the Android App Market now hosting just under 300,000 apps with Apple’s iOS App Store a realistic target to surpass later this year.
On the app front Barra announced the Android App Market has now seen more than 4.5 billion application downloads. This impressive number saw 2 billion apps downloaded in the platform’s first two years with the second 2 billion being totted up just 5 months later.
