T3 Top Ten: Games to keep fit

How to have fun while fighting the Xmas flab

For far too long videogames and gamers have been tarred with the lazy brush – with the common perception of gaming being that of an overweight young male slouched on the sofa ‘pwning’ his Xbox Live buddies on Gears of War while stuffing his fat face full of pizza.

No longer! The games industry is quickly cottoning on to the fact that games that keep gamers fit are big business, following the runaway success of Nintendo’s Wii Fit last year, not to mention the fact that Wii Sports is now officially the biggest-selling game of all time, even knocking Super Mario Bros. off its perch!

The bigger games publishers such as Activision, EA and Ubisoft are all readying keep fit type ‘games’ for release in 2009. Forget about forking out for that ultra expensive gym membership, because the chances are that you will give up on your best intentions come February and then be lumped with a costly monthly fee for the rest of the year. Try keeping fit while having fun in the comfort of your own living room instead? Just make sure to draw the blinds, as the neighbours may well give you some funny looks as you hoola away on your Wii Balance Board...

Check out T3’s handy top ten guide to what’s already out and what’s on the horizon in the world of keep fit videogaming fun.
