New PSP-4000 to be announced this year by Sony?

There's nothing internet people love more than speculating on a redesigned PlayStation or PSP gaming device from Sony. Except for maybe speculating on redesigned Apple products. Or Zune-phones. You get the picture.

PSP rumours particularly thrill us here at T3, as we were less than impressed with the slight tweaks made in the PSP-3000. As much as the brighter screen thrilled, it still looked identical to the older model. Rumours doing the rounds today are claiming that Sony will announce the PSP-4000 at either E3 or GDC, both large gaming conferences in the States.

The images you see to the right are obviously from the hand of an 'artist', but it's not unlike renders we've seen previously, and there are certainly rumours to support the addition of a new sliding front-screen. Sony is apparently hiring testers for 'a new game machine' according to a job listing, so it's not unbelievable that they'll be looking at doing a complete redesign overhaul in the coming year for the PSP.

Of course, Sony is denying all rumours of a PSP-4000/PSP2, but with GDC just around the corner in March, and E3 coming up in June, we may well see some form of confirmation from the big Japanese giant soon.
