BBC and Sony join forces for iPlayer access
Sony Vaio computers to get BBC iPlayer desktop widget
Sony and the BBC have struck up a deal that will see the Beeb’s on-demand catch-up service, BBC iPlayer appear on all new Vaio laptops in the form of a desktop widget.
Available as a pre-install this month, the new Vaio bound BBC widget will allow Sony’s desktop and laptop users to pre-book entire BBC series to be automatically downloaded when available and watch downloaded content even when offline.

Sony’s official announcement of the partnership states: "This will allow Sony Vaio customers to benefit from access to live and on-demand TV and Radio programmes directly through a desktop shortcut on laptops and all-in-one computers."
Offering even easier access to the BBC’s feast of on-demand content, the new widget will, according to Edd Uzzell, Proposition Development Manager for Sony, “give users the ability to watch and manage their favourite programmes at the click of a button.”
