Sony has celebrated the fifth birthday of its leading games console with the UK anniversary of the Sony PS3 release marked with a timeline detailing the history of the PlayStation.
Just days after bitter rival Microsoft rang in the 10th anniversary of the original Xbox’s arrival in Europe, Sony has marked five years of availability of its current core gaming console with the Sony PlayStation hitting European markets for the first time on March 23rd 2007.
Detailing the past half-decade of PS3 existence via the official Sony PlayStation European Facebook page, Sony has celebrated the console’s latest milestone amidst repeated rumours of the console’s replacement with a Sony PS4 release tipped for next year.

Having undergone a number of core changes and evolutions during the past five years, Sony originally launched the PS3 as the “the world's most powerful entertainment system" with an integrated Blu-ray player featuring alongside HD graphics and new six-axis wireless controllers.
