In a week of high-profile releases, Rockstar’s eagerly awaited Max Payne 3 has sprung to the top of the UK All Format Gaming Charts ahead of fellow new release, Diablo 3.

Following its release last Friday, May 18th; the latest addition to the popular Max Payne franchise saw strong opening day sales take it to the fore of the gaming chart for the week ending May 19th. Blizzard’s Diablo 3 saw similar success lining up second, just 8,000 sales behind its rival.

Capitalising on the dramatic close to the Premier League season and the run in to the Champions League Final and Euro 2012 tournament EA’s FIFA Street ended the week on the final podium position ahead of Sniper Elite V2 and FIFA 12 in sports four and five respectively.

Staking its claim to chart glory, Activision secured the week’s sixth and seventh spots with Prototype 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 trumping EA’s epic first-person shooter, Battlefield 3, which lined up in eighth. The week’s top ten was rounded out by Ubisoft’s resurgent Assassin’s Creed Revelation in ninth and the rock of the top ten base, Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
