The first own branded Google Nexus tablet previously hinted at by Eric Schmidt is set to land with a 7-inch form factor and an Amazon Kindle Fire rivalling price tag, new reports have suggested.
Having stated that Google will “market a tablet of the highest quality” to further stoke the “brutal competition between Apple and Google Android” Schmidt’s teasing of a Nexus tablet is now expected to see Google launch a 7-inch device to curb the threat of online retailer come gadget manufacturing powerhouse, Amazon.

Citing unnamed sources, frequent pre-release gadget tipster come rumour monger Digitimes has suggested the sub-sized tablet will land as early as March following a possible MWC 2012 unveiling with the company’s latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS fully integrated and optimised onboard.
“Google will launch the own-brand tablet PC in March-April, featuring a 7-inch panel and Android 4.0 with a price less than US$199 to compete against Amazon,” the sources claimed.
