Facebook reportedly blocks MessageMe's friend-finding feature

Social networking giant fends off competition from new app

Facebook has reportedly blocked the friend-finding feature from new social networking app, MessageMe. Launched last week the app is already No. 2 in social networking in the U.S.

TechCrunch reports that MessageMe, the messaging app launched last week, has had the integration feature turned off but no comment has been made by CEO Arjun Sethi or Facebook.

In January, Facebook were quick to block Twitter's new vine app from accessing the friend-finding feature to connect with other users via. their Facebook.

When blocking the feature, Facebook cited its platform policy saying, "You may not use Facebook Platform to promote, or to export user data to, a product or service that replicates a core Facebook product or service without our permission."

The same policy could apply for MessageMe as it is similar to Facebook's own Messenger feature allowing users to text, chat and share other media such as photo, video and audio recordings.

The friend-finding feature is not functional within the iOS version of the app displaying no results when syncing with a user's Facebook account.

Following the block, Vine has remained at the top of social networking charts with MessageMe already holding the second place spot.
