Motorola MotoRAZR 2 V8

Does this music mobi wail in your ear that it's time to bin your MP3 player?

In a word, no. It's a tragic fact of life that brains and beauty rarely go hand in hand, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the Motorola MotoRAZR 2 V8. The latest RAZR looks as sharp as its forebears and is thinner than Jude Law's hair, but there's bugger all memory: only 512MB of internal storage, just over 400MB of which is available for tunes, and no slot for adding more via memory card.

That's just bizarre when you consider the muso-friendly features of the V8, including Windows Media Player compatibility, stereo Bluetooth support and a touch-sensitive secondary screen on the clamshell lid for controlling playback whilst shut.

On the other hand, given the dreadfully rough sound quality of this thing, especially via the cheap hands-free-set headphones that come with it, maybe the fact that you can only store about 50 tunes is a blessing in disguise. Oh, and the headphone out is USB-only to, so you can't even easily plug in a decent set of cans. Phfft.

WE LOVE

Thin and quite stylish
Nifty external touchscreen music controls

WE HATE

Lack of memory
Cack sound quality

WE SAY

We say: If you want to use the V8 as a portable music player, you'll have to get the 2GB luxury version. Err... which costs £500. So maybe just don't bother.
