Stephen Fry slams the BlackBerry Storm

Storm in a tea cup? Or fatal blow for BlackBerry?

Can a middle-aged comic actor kill off a high-profile mobile phone? Well, if that person is Stephen Fry, quite possibly.

Fry has been giving the BlackBerry Storm a good kicking, verbally of course, via his Twitter blog, describing the potential Apple beater as 'Shockingly bad', 'embarrassingly awful' and finally ' iPhone killer? Ha!'. It doesn't look like he'll be trading in his iPhone any time soon.

Fry himself doesn't believe he can kill off a phone with a few pointed phrases, describing himself to the BBC as nothing more than a 'passionate amateur', but couldn't resist a final dig, saying: '...Play with the Storm for two days as I have and you will admire my patience at not throwing it out of the window...', But Fry did add: 'I do like the Bold though.'

I can excuse any new product for having teething problems. What I can't excuse ,and especially by a quality company like RIM,is releasing a product that has what can only be described as a joke of a battery life. From a 17 hour charge overnight, I was able to make 2 average length phone calls ,check a few e-mails and compose 3 text messages before the battery was flat by 3PM after I started using the phone at 7AM. THAT is just unacceptable.
Granted there is some lag on the phone ,but overall I really did like the Storm.Intuitive and easy to use,as well as being tactile, but I sent mine back to Vodafone simply because the battery life was beyond awful.
I bought a new battery hoping that the one that came with the phone was just a duff one,but the new one was equaly as bad.Rim need to get their act together becase the Storm has the potential to be a fantastic phone. It's far from that now though.

Now I like Stephen Fry...he's amusing on TV, and charming to meet. But his Apple 'habit' is on a par with Amy Winehouse interest in 'substances'...so I'll politely ignore his rantings on this particualr one
