The HTC Desire phone was always going to be a powerful contender for Phone of the Year, but its combination of sleek, well tuned looks, firecracker processor and stunning screen propelled it to the top. Along with Android 2.2 (Froyo) the combination is unstoppable.

HTC has risen from a promising phone maker (HTC Hero), to the hottest overall phone brand on the planet. From the HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD and Z variants through to the latest slew of powerful Windows Phone 7 contenders such as the HTC HD7, HTC Trophy and HTC 7 Mozart, the list spans a huge chunk of the most desirable handsets on the market.

With such a broad range of offerings, HTC is going to remain the one to beat this next year – we look forward to watching the contest!
