Mozilla and Epic Games team up to bring some of the latest games to the popular web browser

Mozilla, the maker of Firefox, has teamed up with Epic Games to bring Unreal Engine 3 to the popular web browser.

The partnership, which was announced at the Game Developer's Conference (GDC) will make it possible for games based on the Unreal Engine 3 (UE3) to be compiled and ran in a new, optimised Javascript engine developed by Mozilla.

According to Mozilla, the engine will allow UE3-based games to work at similar speeds to if it was being ran natively.

It opens up the tantalising prospect for Mac-gamers that they will be able to experience some previously PC-only games without the need for it to be converted to run on Mac hardware.

Along with the announcement, Mozilla released a technical demo showing what Epic has achieved with the Javascript-based engine. You can view the video below.
