There'll also be a huge increase in the amount of TV content available to view on demand, but all programming will only be available in SD.

Virgin Media is currently the leading player in the UKs VoD market, with 4,600 hours of video content, but Sky will be hoping to gain a little traction with its new offering. It could also counter new TVs with Lovefilm widgets built-into the sets.

Upon launch, the service will only be available to Sky Broadband customers, with the new interface available as an over-the-air update for later this year.
