FourSquare, the free location-based service, has added extra filters to their website to offer a more extensive search service allowing instant filtering depending on whether specials are available, if you have or haven't checked-in before, where your friends have been, price range, opening hours and saved locations.
Users can personalise recommendations based on the save option. This enables the selection of new places to visit or noting down recommendations from friends, as long as the user is signed in to their FourSquare account.
In the official blog post, FourSquare announced, "We'll be rolling out more options in the future, along with filters on your phone so you can find the perfect place when you're on the go."
In a heated exchange over Twitter earlier this year, Keith Rabois, former Square COO, commented on a post by former Googler Hunter Walk who expressed surprise that 40,000 developers used FourSquare's API, in which Rabois replied, "same number of real users."
FourSquare CEO Dennis Crowley came to the company's defence tweeting, "Keep hating... and while you're doing so FourSquare will keep becoming the location layer for the Internet."
