PSP2 UK launch scheduled for pre-Christmas 2011

Sony tells devs to prepare for 2011 festive launch

Developers reveal word from Sony as company remains quiet

Sony is reported to have informed developers that the long awaited and heavily speculated PSP2 will officially launch in time for the Christmas period. Christmas 2011 that is.

This supposedly offical date, declared by gaming website VG247, is further boosted by claims that the upcoming portable gaming device will feature both forward and rear-facing cameras as well as a combination of touchscreen and physical control buttons.

Despite repeated slips from developers such as the Mortal Kombat executive producer Shaun Himmerick, who openly declaring Sony had entrusted him with a PSP2, or the latest revelations on VG247 that include an unnamed British developer who claims: "We've been told it's coming in late 2011”, the console’s creator, Sony is remaining tight-lipped on the existence of such a device.

If the rumours and claims prove to be true, however, we can expect to see the muted PSP2 device popping up around the time of E3 next year before it becomes one of the must have Christmas gifts of 2011.
