LOVEFiLM’s streaming media service has landed on Nintendo’s Wii console and will launch on the new Wii U ‘shortly’
Nintendo is about to mirror Microsoft’s and Sony’s efforts at turning a console into a film streaming hub, with LOVEFiLM ready to land on the Nintendo Wii.
Around eight million Wii owners will now be able to instantly stream films and TV shows through their console.
LOVEFiLM is also set to launch on the HD Wii U. Not date for this has yet been announced, but the streaming video service has released a statement saying it will happen ‘shortly’.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with LOVEFiLM to offer Wii owners and soon Wii U owners on-demand film and TV content to enjoy. LOVEFiLM has a proven track record of success and innovation in film distribution and is a very welcome addition,” said Shelly Pearce, Marketing & PR Director for Nintendo UK.
Unlimited streaming packages start on at £4.99 a month and the Lovefilm app can be downloaded for free from the Wii Shop Channel.
The move completes Lovefilm’s arrival on every major videogames home console – the announced Nintendo Wii U arrival notwithstanding.
