iPod Nano unveiled at Apple event, plus upgrade to iPod Classic
"Shake to shuffle" the most appealing feature
Moving on quickly from iTunes 8, Steve Jobs announces a couple of new iPods, including an upgrade to the 80GB Classic, and a brand new iPod Nano.
"As of today we're upgrading the 80GB iPod", with 120GB of storage, but for the same price. "30,000 songs for your pocket", 120GB is apparently.
"We shipped the first Nano in 2005, it's only been three years", Jobs goes on to say, then introducing the new iPod Nano, which looks just like the leaked photos we've reported on recently.
"It's the thinnest iPod we've ever made", it has an oval shape, and comes in a chrome-look exterior. The screen is high-res, according to El Jobso, and the elongated body makes it look very skinny - just like him.
You can create Genius playslists on the iPod Nano, without it being connected to a PC, plus features an accelerometer, so when you turn it sideways, you can watch video and check out your photos in landscape mode.
The most impressive thing so far to launch tonight is the "shake to shuffle" feature, which literally does what it says on the tin. Plus - "these iPods are the cleanest and least-toxic iPods we've ever created".
Normally colour unveils don't shock people, but wow, eight new colours, all the shades of the rainbow. 8GB will be $149, 16GB will be $199, and both models will ship in next few days.
New Apple headphones are also launching, with a little control located on the headphone wires, so you can play/pause, rewind, forward and turn the music up as well. New in-ear headphones are also launching, they have two drivers each in them, a woofer and a tweeter, they will sell for $79.
Just to reiterate, the 8GB will cost £109, the 16GB will be £149.
