ASUS launches lightweight 1002HAE Eee PC

All the size, none of the weight

If you want a slightly larger netbook, but worry about the added strain on your shoulder, ASUS could have just the thing for you - the ASUS 1002HAE Eee PC.

Essentially, this is a subtle twist on the existing 1002HA Eee PC, now with a lightweight aluminium casing for ease of carrying. Not that a 10-inch netbook was ever going to be a serious strain to drag around town, but every little helps, especially if your bag is packed with another five gadgets, your lunch and other assorted rubbish.

Inside that lightweight casing is much the same specification as its predecessor, which means a 1.6GHz N280 Atom processor, 1GB of memory, 160GB of storage, Wi-Fi, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, memory card reader, a couple of USB slots, a battery that's good for nearly four hours and a 10-inch 1,024 x 600 pixel LED backlit display.

The total weight drops from 1.45kg to 1.2kg, but we don't expect the price of the 1002HAE Eee PC to follow suit. It's just gone on sale in Japan for the equivalent of £335, a slight increase on the £300 price tag of the 1002HA.
