Windows 7 to come with Sky Player service
Streaming, and on-demand service imminent
If the launch of Windows 7 wasn't enough, Microsoft today announced that its Media Centre will host Sky Player Services on the new OS.
Similar to the deal with Xbox and Sky Player announced earlier this year, the service will sit in the TV section of the Media Centre and will allow subscribers to stream 24 live television channels along with on-demand shows.
At launch the service will be limited to streaming mode only, but expect downloading to be available towards the back-end of this year. Sky customers with Sky Multiroom, or Unlimited broadband packages will gain unlimited acces. For those tempted by the bait, subcriptions start at £15 a month for the basic package, right up to £50 for all available channels.
In an interview with Techradar, Sky's Director of On Demand Griff Parry commented, "Sky Player in Windows 7 offers yet another innovative and attractive way through which to access a wide range of live and on-demand TV.
"Whether it's an existing customer looking to get even more from their Sky subscription, or someone connecting with Sky for the first time through their PC, everyone can enjoy a high-quality online TV experience through Windows 7."
Expect to see the service fully launch before the end of the year on Windows 7 computers, bad news for those signed up for the netbook Starter Edition, there won't be any Sky Player love for you.
