Queen gets golden Nintendo Wii

Wii are not amused by our awful puns

What does one get for the lady who has it all? A perfectly good games console daubed in gold plating, according to THQ. The publisher sent the blinged up eye-sore to Her Maj’ to promote its brand new Wii title: BIG Family Games.

“BIG Family Games is the ultimate Wii game to get all family members, from grandparents to young children, playing together,” explained Danielle Robinson, Product Manager at THQ. “The Royal Family is arguably the most important family in the country so we felt that they had to have a copy of the new game.” Not exactly the family most deserved of a console plated in precious metals though, surely?

The Queen has a keen eye for tech, sporting an iPod given to her by the Obamas and her own YouTube channel, which we’re hoping will be used to catch her facial expression when this she sees this monstrosity come out of its box, like a rare designer shellsuit from a mobile home.

BIG Family Games, in case you’re wondering, is a collection of 24 mini-games (mini-games? On a Wii? Never!) featuring “unique twists” on classic family games like golf, tennis, lawn darts, horseshoes, bocce and more. We have an unnerving suspicion that ‘unique twist’ actually means ‘motion sensing controls’. To the Royal family’s disappointment, fox hunting, polo and grouse shooting are not featured.
