Nintendo Wii U 'more powerful' than PS3 and Xbox 360

Developer suggests Nintendo's next-generation console will surpass current gamers

Ahead of this year's Nintendo Wii U release date, developers have suggested the Wii U console is 'more powerful' than the Sony and Microsoft gamers

The Nintendo Wii U will be a true competitor to the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 and not be underpowered as recent reports have suggested, developers have revealed.

Counteracting a number of recent reports that suggested the Wii U would fail to live up to its now dated Sony and Microsoft branded rivals, Jeremiah Slaczka, CEO of 5th Cell, the developer behind the upcoming Wii U title Scribblenauts has stated the Nintendo console is “definitely more powerful that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.”

He added: "It's kind of frustrating to see the rumours and speculation of people going back and forth saying it's weaker or more powerful. It's definitely more powerful."

Despite having been showcased at E3 for the past two years, there are still a number of clouds over the true potential and features of the Wii U with the Wii follow-on set to launch later this year with a tablet-esque controller and a serious of innovative new gameplay features.

Although a confirmed Nintendo Wii U UK release date has to be formally announced, the Japanese gaming giant has revealed that the eagerly awaited console will launch later this year ahead of the frantic and lucrative pre-Christmas shopping rush.
