While this year will see the release of the Sony PS Vita, the handheld console has seen a retro-themed revival with a slew of retro-compatible consoles
Handheld NeoGeo X console confirmed for Q2 2012
Retro gaming specialist Blaze has officially announced that their handheld NeoGeo X console will go on sale in the second quarter of this year.
“The NeoGeo console has always been a personal favorite of mine and I am delighted to be involved with the development of this new handheld console” said Jason Cooper of Blaze.
“We hope to re-ignite the excitement many of us felt twenty one years ago, in a more affordable manner, to a much wider audience."
The so-called “iPod for games” was leaked back in January and it appears that, aside from the size of the screen, all the features are the same as previously reported.
NeoGeo X Specs
The NeoGeo X will boast a 3.5” LCD screen, A/V output, internal stereo speakers, a headphone socket and a full compliment of all the original controller buttons from its now aging ancestor.
NeoGeo X Features
The newest handheld throwback has taken on a sleeker, more “iPhone 4” look than its more 90’s looking siblings and boasts 20 officially licensed titles including Metal Slug, The King of Fighters and Fatal Fury.
NeoGeo X Release Date
Although no definite price has been confirmed by the manufacturer, you can look forward to having all the power of the 90s console in the palm of your hand when it hits the shelves worldwide in the second quarter of this year.
