HTC Android 3.0 tablet coming early 2011?

Gingerbread-based slate rumoured by components suppliers

Web chatter reckons HTC's iPad rival will show up early next year.

With Samsung, LG and Toshiba hopping on the Android tablet bandwagon, it was only a matter of time before Google phone purveyor extraordinaire HTC jumped on board too.

Rumours coming out of Taiwan this morning suggest that HTC is prepping its own Google-backed tablet for early 2011, with Android 3.0 under the hood. The gossip is emanating from component makers, and while exciting, should be taken with a truckload of salt for now.

That said, the use of Android 3.0 would make perfect sense. Only this week Google said that Android 2.2 was not optimised for tablets, and as such, devices using that version of the OS wouldn’t offer the full-on Android experience.

If HTC can make a tablet anything like the gorgeous HTC Legend, it’ll be onto a winner. We’re keeping our ear to the ground for more tittle tattle, so keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for more.
