Motorola Xoom UK release date: Q2 2011

Premium-priced tab makes it way to UK shores

Moto's award winning tab coming to the UK - but what of that hefty price tag rumour?

Motorola's foray into the tablet realm - the Motorola Xoom - is to wing its way into the hands of UK gadget lovers in just a couple of months, according to those in the know at Moto.

The Xoom, which was, according to Motorola, "designed with the consumer in mind" (well, it helps), boasts a 1GHz processor, a 10.1-inch display and Android 3.0 Honeycomb, and picked up a favourable review from us at this year's CES. However, the tablet raised eyebrows when a launch price of a Croesus-worthy £720 was banded about - a near three hundred quid dearer than Apple's comparatively thrifty iPad.

Bang for your not-insubstantial buck also includes an accelerometer, 5MP camera, 2MP front-facing camera, HDMI out, and full HD playback. And a barometer - which at that price, should almost go without saying.

Nothing more specific than Q2 2011 has been pinned down by Motorola as yet, but we'd be hoping for some serious Galaxy Tab-style price cuts on release if Motorola is to have any chance of luring customers away from the LG Optimus Pad, the BlackBerry PlayBook, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 or the next generation of iPad.
