Motorola Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition announced

So instead of one we've been treated to two brand-new tablets from Motorola, don't be fooled however, despite being called the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition, they're very different animals

Motorola has unveiled two brand new tablets, the Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition, both running Android Honeycomb 3.2 and both sporting hefty hardware specs.

After months of speculation over whether Motorola would be releasing a new tablet the questions have finally been answered, dispelling rumours that it would be the first Android Ice Cream Sandwich tablet both are coming shipped with Honeycomb 3.2 however it would be plausible to speculate an Android 4.0 update is already in development.

Motorola Xoom 2 specs

The main attraction will of course be the Xoom 2 with a 10.1inch screen that's not only protected by Corning Gorilla Glass but also comes with Motorola's splash-guard coating which means it'll withstand even the heftiest of spilled latte's. At a staggering 8.8mm thin it's thinner than the Apple Apple iPad 2 but still manages to pack a punch with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 1GB RAM which means it'll handle even the toughest of app-based tasks.

The Xoom 2 camera credentials pack a punch as well with a 5MP snapper on the back and a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video-calling as well, and with 10+ hours of battery life and 16GB of internal storage Motorola are clearly looking to make it a media winner.

Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition specs

For those who want something a bit more portable the Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition comes in with a 8.2inch screen but still boasting what Motorola is calling a HD-quality screen. Featuring the same hardware specs as the Xoom 2 the Xoom 2 Media Edition comes with the same Corning Gorilla Glass but has a specially designed display that allows wider viewing angles.

For those who are wondering what the 'Media Edition' entails it's most notable in the sound department. Boasting a slightly thicker form-factor at 8.99mm the Media Edition does however come with adaptive virtual surround sound and multiple speakers which offer a bassier experience.

Motorola Xoom 2 release date

Both the Motorola Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition will be available from mid-November with Carphone Warehouse customers being able to pre-order the tablets.
