Open source OS ploughs on and has iOS in its sights.
Google has announced that there are over 130 million Android devices out in the wild. And what’s more the Big G is activating a massive 550,000 of those every single day, a jump of 50,000 a day in the last three weeks alone.
The stats were unveiled during the company’s quarterly earnings call and show just how far the OS has come in the three short years it’s been available to mobile users.
What makes that headline figure even more eye-popping is the fact that it was only at its I/O conference in May this year that Google said there were 100 million Android devices. To grow by 30 million in under three months is nothing short of phenomenal.
Apple is still ruling the roost with 200 million iOS devices, but at this rate Google will have caught up with Cupertino by the end of 2011. Let us know what you think of these amazing stats over on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
