Sony’s Euro head honcho, Andrew House, has explained that there’ll be more than one version of the Sony NGP when it lands around Christmas 2011. And importantly, while they’ll pack Wi-Fi, only one will come with 3G.
In an interview with the chaps at Eurogamer, House said, “"The first thing to clarify, which I'm not sure the presentation did a perfect job of doing today, is that all of the devices will have Wi-Fi capability; a separate SKU will have 3G."
"So the user gets a choice. Wi-Fi is available wherever, which clearly is the most important aspect of connectivity and that connected experience. 3G will be a subset of that."
House said 3G data plans would be revealed nearer launch, which suggests this is something tech experts and pundits will spend most of 2011 gossiping about. Either way, will you want to stump up monthly for yet another gadget? Or will a W-Fi only NGP do for you?
