Fjallraven might be best known for its rugged, heritage-led trekking gear, but its latest release shows the Swedish brand is paying closer attention to a growing shift in how people hike.

The company has introduced the Kajka X-Latt 45, a lighter, stripped-back version of its long-standing Kajka backpack, designed for multi-day trips where reducing weight matters but comfort and support still come first.

A classic pack, reworked for lighter missions

Rather than chasing the fully frameless, bare-bones approach often associated with ultralight setups, Fjallraven has taken a more balanced route.

The Kajka X-Latt 45 retains a supportive carrying system that helps distribute weight over longer distances, along with an adjustable back length to fine-tune the fit for the wearer and load.

That positioning puts it somewhere between traditional trekking packs and the newer wave of minimalist designs, championed by brands such as Gossamer Gear, appealing to hikers who want to carry less without giving up structure.

The pack is designed with practicality in mind, featuring a top-loading main compartment, easy-access storage and multiple attachment points for extra gear.

It’s pitched as a versatile option that can handle anything from short overnighters to extended treks, adapting to different types of trips without feeling overbuilt.

Fjallraven also leans into its sustainability credentials here, with the Kajka X-Latt 45 made from recycled materials and free of PFAS.

That brings it closer in philosophy to brands like Patagonia, which have long pushed for lower-impact outdoor gear, even if the approach here is more evolution than overhaul.

While Fjallraven's new backpack sits firmly in the premium category, it offers a compelling middle ground for those not ready to fully commit to ultralight gear, yet keen to shed unnecessary bulk.

The Kajka X-Latt 45 is available to buy now at Fjallraven UK, Fjallraven EU and Fjallraven US in two sizes (S/M and M/L) and colours (Green and Fossil) for £295 / €340 / $380 (~AU$650).
