Amazon Prime Day has arrived. The event kicks off at midday today, Monday 16 July, and will run until midnight on Tuesday 17 July. Prepare for some stupendous bargains.

Amazon Prime Day is when Amazon discounts thousands of products – on Amazon's own devices plus TVs, laptops, kitchen appliances, mattress, clothes... the list goes on.

If you want to take advantage of these deals, you need to be an Amazon Prime member, and the good news is that you don't already have an account, you can get that Prime membership for nothing.

A full year's membership costs £79 a year in the UK or $119 a year in the US, but you can get a one-month trial for free. That's more than enough time to snap up those Prime Day deals.

And if you're a student, there's even better news for you.

How to get Amazon Prime free for 30 days

As a new customer, you can get Amazon Prime completely free for 30 days. That means you can get the Prime Day deals, with free one-day delivery, without paying a penny for membership.

Once Prime Day is over, you've then got around four weeks left on your Prime account before you get charged, so you could place a load more orders on free one-day delivery, grab a few more deals that are only available to Prime members, and then simply cancel your account.

How to get Amazon Prime free for six months

Amazon is currently offering students a generous six months of free Amazon Prime. Even without Prime Day in the mix, that's an offer worth taking up. Add in the Prime Day deals and it's simply unmissable.

Even better, once the six months is up, Prime Student will only cost you £3.99 a month. That's less than the price of half a pizza!

Of course, you can still cancel before the six month trial period ends and save that £3.99 a month. And that six month time period means you'll still have Amazon Prime for your Black Friday deals before you cancel the trial.
