New iPad demand 'off the charts' says Apple as pre-orders sell-out

Company trumpets unprecedented demand as shipping dates pushed back

Apple touts unprecedented demand for the new iPad as shipping estimates now stand at 2-3 weeks for UK buyers.

Apple has released a statement claiming that the stocks of new iPad tablets it had set aside for pre-orders, as shipping estimates on the company's website are pushed back.

UK buyers can now expect to wait 2-3 weeks to receive new iPad models in the post, but those who were quick off the mark with the pre-ordering process will still receive the tablet on the March 16th launch date.

In a written statement the company said the demand for the new iPad had been 'off the charts', but the pre-order process remained open for those wishing to jump on board.

The company told USA Today: "Customer response to the new iPad has been off the charts and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased.Customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date."

So, if you haven't pre-ordered already, it looks like you're going to have to brave the early-morning queues at Apple's retail outlets in order to become the proud owner of a new iPad on March 16th.
