Angry Birds has shown its dominant stranglehold of the apps sector with new reports revealing the avian flinging super app was downloaded a staggering 6.5 million times on Christmas day alone.
Capitalising from the spate of new handsets and tablets given as gifts this festive period, Rovio’s bird firing puzzle app, in which gamers are tasked with rescuing stolen eggs from a band of thieving pigs, hit unrivalled download figures with the three Angry Birds app offerings reaching the hugely impressive figure in a single day.
Whilst the exact breakdown across the three releases as not been revealed tech blog The Next Web has reported the original Angry Birds app, spin-off Angry Birds Seasons and movie tie-in Angry Birds Rio reached the impressive 6.5 million download figure across all platforms but was led by strong iOS and Android offer
“We’re really excited to have such a massive number of new people get acquainted with Angry Birds over the holidays,” said Rovio’s Angry Birds VP of Franchise Development, Ville Heijari. “We have exciting new releases lined up for 2012, and can’t wait to introduce them to the public.”
