Keeping many of the classic Luminor features, the new Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01707 is made from Carbotech, Panerai’s most advanced material that’s lighter than steel and titanium.
Only a few weeks after it launched two Luminor Luna Rossa watches, Panerai is back with another Luminor model. The new Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01707 keeps Panerai’s classic design cafes from the 1960s and pairs them with its most advanced material yet, Carbotech.
Measuring 44mm, the case of the Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01707 is made from Carbotech, a lightweight and resistant material developed by Panerai. The process of making Carbotech is extensive and includes compressing carbon fibre sheets at a precise temperature and high pressure.
This carbon is compressed alongside a polymer that reinforces the composite which enhances the Carbotech plates in strength and durability. Panerai states that it’s 80% lighter than steel and 64% lighter than titanium, but it’s still resistant to corrosion and water. The watch also has a total thickness of 14.5mm and weighs 100g.
Carbotech is what makes the case of the Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01707 which features the Luminor’s classic square shape with its crown and protective bridge. This dark black shade matches the sandwich matte black dial which is contrasted with beige numerals, hour markers and hands which have Super-LumiNova to enhance its visibility.
At nine o’clock, the Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01707 has a small seconds display which is a reference to the vintage features that Panerai is known for. The dial doesn’t have a date function, leaving it quite simple and minimalistic.
The Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01707 is powered by the P.9010 automatic calibre movement which integrates several mechanisms at once for pin-point accuracy. This includes its stop-seconds which stops the seconds hand when the crown is pulled out, and a quick time-change which moves the hand forward or backward in one-hour increments.
In doing this, it doesn’t affect the minute hand or interrupt the movement, so the Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01707 is a great choice for those who need to flip between different time zones. The movement is made up of two series-connected barrels, 31 jewels and it gives the watch a three day power reserve.
To continue the vintage aesthetic, the Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01707 is finished with a brown calf leather strap with beige stitching. It also comes with a black rubber strap as another option.
