Tesco to sell iPhone 3G and 3GS in time for Christmas

Will Tesco start selling the Palm Pre next, which is also exclusive to O2?

The continuing decline of the iPhone's unattainable luxuriousness has been highlighted again today, with the news that Tesco Mobile will be selling Apple's prized mobile phone. Joining O2, Orange, Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U and Vodafone (in January), Tesco Mobile will start selling the iPhone in time for Christmas.

In an update on the supermarket's website, Tesco says that "Through its joint venture partnership with O2 [Tesco Mobile] is pleased to announce that it will shortly introduce iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in Tesco Phone Shops and online through Tesco Direct in the UK."

Tariffs and further details on availability haven't yet been confirmed, but with Tesco hoping to stock them before Christmas, we should be finding out shortly. And whilst the BBC's technology editor Rory Cellan-Jones claimed there a price war is "looming" when he broke the news on Twitter, we can't see that the iPhone will be offered for any less at Tesco than what O2 already sells it for. But perhaps you can use some of your hard-earned Tesco Clubcard points on buying an iPhone next time you're picking up a pint of milk?
