Motorola Droid 2 official

US punters can lay hands on new Android effort now

Verizon puts Droid 2 up for sale ahead of final confirmation from Motorola.

The Motorola Droid 2 is finally official and up for grabs. Well, in the US at least. The eagerly anticipated and much leaked handset will cost gadget fanatics across the pond $199, plus a two year contract.

Under the hood Android 2.2 FroYo is ready-to-roll, including that all-important hotspot feature, which the original Droid/Milestone can’t handle. There’s also 3G, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and 8GB of storage for stashing tunes, movies and apps from Android Market.

The QWERTY slider has had something of a design overhaul too, eschewing that awkward d-pad for a larger ‘board for tapping out texts and emails.

There’s still now word from Moto on whether the Droid 2 will follow in its older siblings footsteps and become the Milestone 2 over here. Fingers crossed we won’t have to wait long for this slice of killer Android action.
