New iPod touch and iTV on the cards

Annual iPod event could see new look iTunes rentals coming too.

Apple has confirmed that it’s holding a “special event” on 1 September, a week earlier than reports had initially suggested.

The annual gathering will doubtless see the unveiling of a new iPod touch, with FaceTime skills and a Retina Display to match that of the iPhone 4. The iPod nano will also get a tickle.

But what’s got Apple fanatics really salivating is talk of a new iTunes TV rental service, coupled with a spanking new Apple TV. Dubbed iTV, it’s likely to costs just $99 Stateside and out Cupertino in the mixer when it comes to delivering on-demand telly.
