Android conquers as the Samsung Galaxy S II becomes the T3 Phone of the Year

Retaining the title for Google’s Android OS, the Samsung Galaxy S II has become the 2011 T3 Gadget Awards Phone of the Year beating competition from the Apple iPhone 4 and the HTC Sensation

Android’s continued rise to power in the smartphone market has seen Samsung’s Google OS powerhouse the Samsung Galaxy S II take top honours as Phone of the Year at the 2011 T3 Gadget Awards.

In a hard fought battle dominated by Android powered handsets the Samsung Galaxy S II has been named the T3 Gadget Awards 2011 Phone of the Year having seen off competition from the similarly specced HTC Sensation, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Motorola Atrix, HTC Incredible S and iOS touting Apple iPhone 4.

Samsung’s Galaxy S II has risen to popularity since hitting stores in April repeatedly outselling the iPhone 4 to become the UK’s most popular handset three months in a row. The Samsung Galaxy S II is set to face still competition to its newly acquired crown following last week’s official unveiling of the iPhone 4S with the iOS 5 device to go on sale this Friday, October 14th.

Samsung Galaxy S II Specs

A true monster of the mobile market the Samsung Galaxy S II runs Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile operating system plumped buy a hefty 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a whopping 4.27-inch 800 x 480p Super AMOLED Plus display.

An 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities is backed up by a second, 2-megapixel forward-facing snapper with storage handled by a microSD slot capable of supporting up to 32GB of storage.

“The Samsung Galaxy S II is really easy to use,” said T3.com Editor and Gadget Awards judge Kieran Alger. “I love the Social Hub and its pushed on so much more than any other finalist here.”

More than just a specs heavy handset the Samsung Galaxy S II has paired performance with style, lining up at an impossibly slim 8.49mm thick and a staggeringly low 116g in weight. Emulating its iPhone rival the Samsung Galaxy S II is available in both black and white colour waves.
