EXCLUSIVE - BT to open local broadband shops

First ever broadband store to hit the UK this week

BT is bringing word of its Super-fast Total Broadband service to the high street by opening two shops where folks can drop-in for a full demonstration.

 

The novel idea will see stores open their doors in Whitchurch near Cardiff this week, then next door to a chemist in Muswell Hill, North London the following week.

The stores will be the first broadband-specific retail shops to open in the UK and invite the public to "Come in and experience the future of Super-fast broadband from BT."

 

BT hopes the stores, which could venture further afield if successful, will help to convince folks yet to have a home broadband connection to sign up to the service for the first time.

 

Matthew Dearden, Marketing Director at BT Retail, says: "The BT Retail Super-fast Broadband shop in Whitchurch, is the first showcase of its kind to hit Britain's high streets, with another shop planned to open in Muswell Hill, London, next week.  

 

"The showcase shows local people what Super-fast Broadband, currently being trialled in their areas, is all about and enables them to see demonstrations of a range of home and business applications that will enhance their lives."

 

The company has recently upgraded its top download speed upto 20Mbps and plans to install 1.5 million fibre internet connections by 2010 which could boost speeds to between 40 and 60Mbps.
