These 4K Blu-ray deals prove that the US really does it have it better than the rest of the world
These prices simply don't exist overseas
I'm writing this from the UK, and take it from me – you don't know how good you have it in the US. Sure, the cost of tech products is skyrocketing broadly, but the reality is that the dollar remains strong compared to the Euro and Sterling, at least when it comes to the latest tech launches. You only have to compare the UK and US prices of the iPhone Duo to underline that, after all.
If you're a fan of physical media, though, and you're based in the US, you're also winning on that front. Here in the UK, getting a 4K Blu-ray for anything less than £20 is generally a good result – that comes out to around $26, so you can see the problem here.
Just peruse the ongoing Prime Big Deal Days sale on Amazon, though, and you'll find a host of superb movies on 4K disc for far less than that – with a whole heap of them coming in at $15 or below right now. I've picked out five highlights, but you can find a whole range on Amazon yourself, too. All of these are substantially more expensive in the UK, so if you buy one, just know that I'm jealous.
A nearly peerless animated classic, in the sense that its influence is still being felt in all sorts of movies and shows to this day – and not just in the form of that iconic bike slide angle. This story of the atomic age and how extreme power can go very wrong is unsettling and tense, and the way it unfolds needs to be seen. It'll be better than ever on 4K disc, especially at more than half off.

I'll come out and say it – I think this is the finest action movie since Fury Road, and the purest distillation of everything that's great about Mission: Impossible. It had Tom Cruise just before age started to work against him, committing to some of the most ridiculous stunts ever, in service of a clear but fun plot – and that's enough for me.

Pretty much everyone agrees that this movie has no right to be as good as it is – a licensed film that had little fanfare and criminally hasn't been given a sequel. It nails so many little details about the world of Dungeons & Dragons, all without laying it on too thick. To get it in UHD for less than $10 is frankly silly.

One of the funniest, most laid-back films of all time, this is one of the Coen brothers' finest – and while it's technically not marked as a deal, I think you'll agree that this price is clearly a discount. Jeff Bridges remains an icon for his performance, and watching it in 4K feels like the right way to honour it.

The Matrix is the sort of film you need to own on physical media just in case the urge ever grabs you to rewatch a modern classic (one that's aged almost improbably well given its focus on all things digital). Its style is unbeatable, its philosophy impressively deep, and this price makes it a bargain to add to your collection.
