Wish it was still the 1990s? When it didn’t feel like we were careening towards climate change disaster and a future of far-right dictators' nuclear spats? This deal will send you right back there: it’s only a bloomin' Tamagotchi.

Tamagotchis have actually been back for years now. But this Prime Day deal brings the resurrected original model to a lower price than you’d have paid back in 1997.

A bunch of different Tamagotchi models are on sale, but this is the cheapest one of the lot, barely over a tenner.

Bandai Tamagotchi Original Sky Shell: was £19.99 now £10.49 at Amazon

The cheapest Tamagotchi in town. While you rarely have to pay full whack for a Tamagotchi if you shop around, this is the lowest we've seen one sell for at Amazon.

For the uninitiated, these Tamagotchis are iconic virtual pets. You make sure they are fed, cleaned up, entertained and given medicine when necessary. And in return, they might not die on you.

The Tamagotchi creature eventually grows up, and what it grows into depends on how you treat it.

This particular one is a “gen 2” Tamagotchi, which reflects the gameplay loop you get. There are Gen 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3 versions of the original Tamagotchi design now available.

Want something a little more advanced? The Tamagotchi Connection models are on sale too.

These use an infrared connection to communicate with other Tamagotchis of the same type. And there’s a bit more to the loop, too, with six mini-games and 50 types of character to discover based on how you treat the hatched egg-ling.

Do you need that extra content if you’re just here for a hit of nostalgia? Maybe not.

This jazzed-up take on the original Tamagotchi features wireless communication and loads more content than the original virtual pet design. There are now six mini-games, instead of the original one.

The Tamagotchi Connection series also only arrived in 2004, the better part of a decade after the introduction of the brand.

And if you really want to see what the Tamagotchi series developed into, you need to get a Tamagotchi Uni anyway. It’s a watch version with a colour screen, but it isn’t part of the Prime Day sale this time around.
