If you’d told me I’d be blown away by a yoga mat, I’d have laughed. I’m more of a weights-and-whey-protein type. However, the YogiFi Gen 3 Smart Mat genuinely surprised me. It’s super light, despite the sensors embedded beneath the surface; it rolls up easily and doesn’t scream “gadget.” It just feels like a high-end, super comfy yoga mat, only smarter.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made its way into almost every corner of fitness - in your dumbbells, in your smartwatch, and now, in your yoga mat. The YogiFi Smart Mat Gen 3 is an interactive tool that blends tradition with technology, offering real-time posture correction, personalised guidance, and a smarter way to practice yoga.

To get started, you’ll pair it with the YogiFi app, which provides instant feedback on your form, offers course corrections, and tracks your progress over time. Unlike many smart fitness products, it doesn’t require a camera - so there’s no need to frame yourself perfectly. Just focus on your flow.

But how does this AI-powered mat hold up in real-life practice? And how does it compare to other yoga mats on the market? Here's our full review.

YogiFi Gen 3 Smart Mat review: Design and Materials

At first glance, the YogiFi Gen 3 looks just like a premium yoga mat. But hidden beneath the surface are smart sensors that detect pressure distribution, alignment, and stability. These sensors track your movement in real-time and deliver corrective cues via the app without altering how the mat feels underfoot. You can’t feel a thing, or see them either. (Incisive me, did check - many times.)

The mat itself is grippy, supportive, and cushioned, offering plenty of comfort for longer holds on knees or elbows. The top layer is smooth but non-slip, handy if you’re sweating through a strong practice or flowing in the summer heat.

It’s made from Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE), a robust yet recyclable material that gives the mat a durable but eco-conscious edge. When first unrolled, it lay completely flat, no curling at the edges. And at just 3.3 lbs, it’s impressively light for a tech-enabled mat and rolls up neatly into its own carry bag.

The charging port sits discreetly at the top, with a subtle, glowing logo that shows when the mat is on and connected via Bluetooth. A full charge takes around two to three hours using the USB-C cable, and you’ll get roughly eight hours of continuous use. I didn’t keep strict track, but I didn’t have to charge it for a good week, so I can confirm the battery holds up well for regular practice.

Out of the box, there was that unmistakable new-mat smell, but that’s totally normal - and oddly satisfying. You’ll also find a handwritten welcome note from the founder, who explains how she turned to yoga to help manage a chronic illness. It’s a thoughtful touch that makes the whole experience feel considered from the start.

YogiFi Gen 3 Smart Mat review: Performance, Grip and Features

I love the padding this mat offers. At 6mm thick, it delivers just the right amount of cushioning. I often practice outside, which means my knees are a bit more sensitive than they’d be on carpet. But with this mat, I didn’t notice the hard floor beneath me once. The cushioning is fantastic, considering the light-weight feel of the mat, and probably one of the best I’ve tried in terms of support and feel under your limbs.

The grippy, anti-slip top layer kept my hands and feet firmly in place while practicing, even during more dynamic flows. I also liked the subtle chakra patterns on the surface - something to focus on while hanging upside down. The underside is grippy too, which helped when I moved my practice indoors.

Even on a hard floor, the mat didn’t budge as I transitioned between poses. This gave me some really solid sessions, free from distractions or any worry that I’d have to pause mid-flow to adjust my mat. All I had to do was focus on getting each pose spot on - and if I didn’t? Well, that leads me nicely to the AI technology...

YogiFi Gen 3 Smart Mat review: AI Technology

Pairing the mat with the YogiFi app was seamless, and once connected, I could access a suite of features including live posture correction, session tracking, and guided yoga classes. I opted for the energising “Morning Fresh” session, led by Carolyn, who monitored my movements remotely.

Carolyn guided me through a warm-up and offered real-time corrections, balance cues, and subtle posture prompts throughout. A heat map in the corner of the screen showed exactly where my hands and feet were placed - and if they weren’t quite right? The mat picked it up instantly, gently prompting me to adjust. Once I did, a satisfying green tick appeared, allowing me to press on through the session.

What stood out most was how intuitive and unobtrusive the experience felt. You’re not bombarded with data, just the right amount of insight to improve your alignment and deepen your practice. The pauses between poses became chances to feel into the movement, not tech distractions. And if I didn’t quite hit the pose perfectly but it still felt right, the mat would eventually stop prompting, so we didn’t get stuck obsessing over one move.

The connection remained stable throughout, with no Bluetooth dropouts or lag. And if I wanted to go freestyle and follow my own flow, the mat quietly tracked everything in the background, perfect for anyone using YouTube sessions or building their own routine.

I also loved that the mat tracks metrics like balance, flexibility, and stability, which are stored in your profile and can be shared with a coach for expert feedback. The daily mantras were a nice motivational touch, and the visual streak tracker helped keep me consistent.

YogiFi Gen 3 Smart Mat review: Who Is It For?

Whether you’re new to yoga or looking to refine your flow, the YogiFi Gen 3 Smart Mat has a lot to offer.

It’s especially valuable for anyone working on mobility, rehab, or recovering from injury, thanks to its real-time feedback and joint-friendly cushioning.

Injured or managing a health condition? The Elite plan includes therapy-based programs co-created with certified professionals. Whether you’re improving mobility, managing diabetes, or correcting posture from long desk days — there’s a session for that.

For instructors, there’s even the option to monitor students remotely, making it a powerful teaching tool too.

YogiFi Gen 3 Smart Mat review: verdict

The YogiFi Gen 3 isn’t just a yoga mat: it’s a smart ecosystem designed to support, correct, and evolve your practice. From real-time posture feedback to a genuinely intuitive app experience, it helps you move better, feel stronger, and train smarter.

If you’re serious about yoga, mobility, or recovery and want tech that works with you rather than distracts you this is one smart mat that earns its place in your kit.

There’s not much that lets this mat down. Yes, it’s more expensive than your standard yoga mat, but the added tech more than justifies the price, and I loved how easy it was to use, roll up, store, and then get back out when you wanted to use it again.

That said, I did find my flow occasionally slowed. Hitting each pose correctly is important, but waiting for the app’s green light sometimes disrupted the natural rhythm of my practice. And with so much content available, it felt a little overwhelming at first. But once I found my favourite teachers and go-to sessions, I settled into a daily routine, and the AI prompts genuinely helped improve my alignment. I secretly wanted to impress my virtual teacher, which meant fewer posture adjustments with each session.

This mat definitely made yoga more appealing to someone who usually prefers the gym - and gave the right amount of guidance for someone who has a little experience of yoga yet keen to get better without committing to a regular class.
