QUICK SUMMARY

Tapo has launched its latest indoor camera, the TC72 Pan/Tilt AI Home Security Wi-Fi Camera.

Priced at £39.99, the Tapo TC72 has 2K resolution, pan and tilt coverage and smart AI detection.

Despite covering smart home technology for several years now, I’ve never really gotten the appeal for indoor security cameras. I’ve tested a few in my day, but as soon as I’m done, I tend to give them to people in my life who have pets and kids who they want to check up on while they’re away.

But after seeing the new Tapo TC72 Pan/Tilt AI Home Security Wi-Fi Camera, it might have convinced me to give indoor cameras another try. This pocket-sized model may be small and cheap, but it packs some serious smarts under its hood.

Starting with video quality, the Tapo TC72 offers 2K 4MP QHD resolution, so it captures every detail clearly. It even has enhanced night vision, so you can see clearly in low light and dark conditions, with a visibility of up to 30 feet.

Thanks to its small and inconspicuous size, the Tapo TC72 can comfortably sit on shelves in your home without being too much of an eye sore. It has a pan and tilt design which offers 360º horizontal and 114º vertical coverage to cover all areas of your home. When it detects motion, the camera will even follow it so you don’t miss anything.

Speaking of detection, the Tapo TC72 has smart AI detection. It can detect humans, pets, vehicles and even babies crying, so it’s a handy device that can double as a baby monitor if needed. When it detects these events, it’ll send you quick notifications.

Other notable features include a built-in microphone and speaker so you can talk to people in your home with two-way talk, and a sound and light alarm which can scare off unwanted visitors. The Tapo TC72 is also compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant so you can use it with voice commands.

In terms of storage, the Tapo TC72 stores footage on a microSD card with a maximum capacity of up to 512GB. Alternatively, you can sign up to Tapo Care to use cloud storage, but if you want to keep things subscription-free, you’ll have to use a microSD card which you can buy separately.

The Tapo TC72 is available to buy for £39.99 at Tapo and select retailers, like Amazon.
