This Pink Floyd X We Are Rewind retro cassette collab is bang on the Money

We Are Rewind and Pink Floyd have teamed for a special edition version of the WE-001 portable tape deck.

It celebrates Floyd's seminal album, The Dark Side of the Moon, and includes a remastered version of the cassette, too.

We Are Rewind is a master of nostalgia, having brought the humble cassette player kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. It’s no stranger to collaborations, either, already releasing a Duran Duran and Elvis version of its WE-001 cassette player.

But its latest collab is its best yet. Originally teased back in February, it has teamed up with Pink Floyd to create a cassette player that pays homage to The Dark Side Of The Moon, complete with Storm Thorgerson inspired prism artwork.

Not only that, this edition comes equipped with a newly remastered version of The Dark Side Of The Moon on tape. You know, that album that went 14x platinum and spent a cool 741 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 – some 15 in years in the charts!

Bang on the Money

Speaking about the link-up, Nick Mason of Pink Floyd said: "I still have enormous affection for the cassette. It really was a major breakthrough – not only with the Sony Walkman but with some of the more up-market recorders.

"I still have my Nakamichi on the shelf and look forward to testing it with the new The Dark Side of the Moon cassette.

“Am I correct in assuming that the next major issue will be The Dark Side of the Moon in a large package consisting of the album divided up into 78 RPM discs?"

That we would love to see but, for now, this is the only cassette version of the 50th anniversary remaster of The Dark Side of the Moon, so a must for collectors.

As for the WE-001 itself, it may be a retro delight but it has some very modern features. Including Bluetooth 5.1, a built-in rechargeable battery with up to 12 hours of playback, High-fidelity sound reproduction and line-in recording so you can make your own mixtapes.
