Japanese outdoor giant Snow Peak has updated one of the most important tents in its history
The updated Amenity Dome 3 adds an outer-first pitching system, improved ventilation and a more versatile living area
Snow Peak has just reinvented its first-ever shelter 36 years after it launched, bringing a redesigned version of the Amenity Dome 3 to UK campers for 2026.
The original Amenity Dome was introduced in 1990 and, according to Snow Peak, was the Japanese outdoor brand’s first tent.
It has remained one of the company’s bestselling and most accessible tents ever since.
The latest three-person version retains the low, rounded silhouette associated with the Amenity Dome, but introduces a revised frame, a larger vestibule and several changes intended to make camping in wet or warm weather more comfortable.
Although this model first appeared in Snow Peak’s Japanese 2025 range, it is now being pushed as the updated 2026 Amenity Dome in other regions.
Pitch imperfect
Perhaps the most useful change is the move to an outer-frame construction with the poles supporting the flysheet, while the inner sleeping compartment hangs underneath it.
That means you can erect the outer structure before attaching the inner tent, helping to keep the sleeping area dry when pitching in the rain.
The inner can also remain attached during setup and takedown, reducing the number of clips and hooks that need to be handled each time.
Snow Peak has also redesigned the vestibule with a symmetrical layout and entrances on both sides.
The larger porch provides additional storage and living space, while zippered side panels make it easier to reach equipment without opening the entire front of the tent.
The front panel can be raised to create a covered awning, complete with side walls to offer additional protection from wind and rain.
The flysheet uses 75-denier polyester taffeta with a minimum 1,800mm hydrostatic-head rating, while the inner combines 68-denier polyester walls with a tougher 210-denier floor, also rated to at least 1,800mm.
An A7001 aluminium-alloy frame supports the structure.
At 9kg, this is firmly a car-camping tent, but it does pack down to a comparatively small 71 x 22 x 26cm, which is not too shabby for a 3-person tent.
The Amenity Dome 3 is available now for £600 / $639.95 / €690 (AU$1,147) from Snow Peak UK, Snow Peak US and Snow Peak EU, with a smaller two-person Amenity Dome 2 also offered.
