Samsung has announced that its Smart TV App Store has passed the one million mark. After going live only a year ago, the Store has started to gain a hold among consumers.
Although currently there’s a fairly modest 200 apps, compared to 250,000 plus in Apple’s App Store, Samsung expects the take-up to be swift with 6.5 million downloads by the end of 2011 and 20 million by 2012.
The App Store offers everything from social networking and current affairs to the latest weather. It seems internet TV is starting to catch on among the public, and with the likes of Google TV, YouView and Virgin Media’s new TiVo offering, it’s a trend that seems set to explode in the next few years.
Samsung’s App Store isn’t just for TV and will work on Blu-ray players as well as their top-end tech like the Galaxy S and Tab
